ubermaus   10 #1 Posted February 10, 2015 Hey, Bit unhappy about this: Can anyone recommend a good diet? Starting weight is 225lbs. Looking to get down to around 185lbs in 6 months.  Started training again this week, cut out junk food. Bit stressed out about it as fallen into bad habits with eating too much at mealtimes etc.  May take a big change to shift weight!  ---------- Post added 10-02-2015 at 10:26 ----------  Anyone know the calories in wine? Am guessing too much.
 Share this content via...

dannamaya   10 #4 Posted February 11, 2015 Lots of HIIT and you are good to go.. i have read somewehere about green coffee extract, as it helps but not sure.. EDIT here it is http://daniellamay.com/the-best-green-coffee-extract/  but not sure if it helps or not.. you might try it out, but I'd go with HIIT as it's the best type of exercise.. of course you'll need to start slowly, so no need to worry about run time
 Share this content via...

DnAuK   10 #9 Posted February 11, 2015 This is the only way. According to the most recent science.  Very true. But, also according to recent science, it seems that there is also a genetic tendency to be overweight or not, same as with having blue eyes, or ginger hair. So, whilst you can always affect it (get contacts, dye your hair, excercise, eat less) you have to keep constantly doing it... or you will revert to 'norm'.  Why not just be happy with what you got? Unless it's specifically for health reasons of course.
 Share this content via...
Cyclone   10 #10 Posted February 11, 2015 55 k posts.. ohhh  Yes, did you have some point to make?  ---------- Post added 11-02-2015 at 10:43 ----------  Very true. Unless it's specifically for health reasons of course.  The "norm" for anyone is entirely dependent on calories in versus calories out. Some people might require slightly less or slightly more to maintain any given weight, but genetics can't alter physics. If you want to be a particular weight, for health, vanity, or some other reason, controlling your diet and doing exercise are the only way to achieve it. getphysical   10 #11 Posted February 11, 2015 The eat less and/or move more scenario is unarguable, as is the calories (energy) in versus calories out. The problem however, is determining the parameters that will be effective for any one individual and sadly, that's where the problems start. For example, not putting sugar in your morning cuppa and taking the stairs instead of the lift falls nicely within the boundaries of the eat less/move more equation, but then so does living on lettuce leaves and running a marathon a day, and unfortunately, without the use of fairly sophisticated medical equipment, the calories in/out equation is very difficult to determine with any accuracy for any one individual and can differ by up to 30% against the statistical average calculations.  Also, your ability to burn body fat is predominantly controlled by specific hormones and enzymes, the production of which are influenced (not necessarily directly controlled) by both caloric (energy) and nutritional intake (proteins, carbs, fats, etc.). A simple analogy is that whilst your car may say it does 40mpg the true amount is dependent on many other factors: driving style, road conditions, tyre pressure, etc. etc.  So where does this leave you and how does it help? Possibly the most important point to consider is that your body will not simply dispose of fat in large quantities (regardless of what the fat burning supplement/fitness DVD industry claims - it's a physical impossibility); therefore there isn't any one single trick that you can incorporate that does it all for you, certainly not in the short-term of a few days or weeks. However, if you apply a number of little tricks, such as becoming more active, drinking green tea, performing HIIT, power-marching, lifting weights, etc. as well as cutting out the junk, reducing simple sugars and increasing protein, then ALL these types of improvements - plus many others - suddenly begin to add up and you'll start to see permanent results.  There is one final thing: consistency. If you're not consistently applying this to your lifestyle, then again, the results are only short-lived. Copperwood   10 #12 Posted February 11, 2015 I think it really helps to track your food intake on an app such as 'My Fitness Pal'.  I'm not saying it's a magical weight loss tool but I know quite a few people who use it with a decent amount of success and best of all it's free!
