Smallest Church in Sheffield

Recommended Posts

Evening all

Just wondered does anyone know which is the smallest church in Sheffield that is still open and having services.

Ideally North Sheffield really, we are looking to arrange a christening, however there are not many of us, so we would look a little lost in some churches, so we're looking for somewhere really intimate.

Any ideas

If you are looking to welcome your child into your church, why not christen them at your church?

Well that was a really helpful answer to the question I posted, thanks. Don't know why I didn't think of that!

Oh hold on I did think of that but as I said in my post, there are only a small handful of us so I was looking for somewhere really small and intimate. Not as ours is a large local church, which is lovely for a regular service but we would be lost on our own.

But thanks all the same for your helpful comments.

Attercliffe Hill Top Chapel

But as said before, why not use your local church or don't bother if you don't intend to bring up the child within the church family.

Have read this?

There is a very small Church or Chapel on Grimesthorpe Rd S4 7EY. I dont know if it is active. Also if you go to the big mosque on Wolsey Road Heeley, there is a side street which joins with Chippinghouse Road. There is a Church or Chapel on there which is more like a converted terraced house.

There is a proper church which is small behind Swann Mortons at Owlerton. Good parking as well. I think it is Evanangical.

Also you could consider having the christening in the prestbury at the Sacred Heart Hillsborough. St Francis of Assasi at Sandygate Road Crosspool has a small room as well as the main one. These two are Catholic by way.

When we got our son christened we didn't want him christened at our local church and our first choice church the vicar wouldn't do it as it wasn't in our parish. when we found the church we loved we had to attend the church service every Sunday for at least six months in order to register in the new parish and the vicar had to get permission initially off our original parish vicar so it might not be as easy as finding a church you like.

What about http://www.wincobankchapel.btck.co.uk/

Never been inside but it looks quite small from the outside

Sorry it is bigger than it looks http://www.wincobankchapel.btck.co.uk/Facilities but there are smaller rooms which you could enquire about

OK, I'll bite - what do you think a christening is?

Isn't a christening a welcoming of a child into the church, rather than a specific building?

It's welcoming a child to the church community, a community which the OP is eager to avoid by the looks of it. Hence my question.

It's welcoming a child to the church community, ..........

That is the position strongly pushed by the Church of England in more recent times.

Many other churches ( and the CofE not too long ago) are happy to baptise a child in private, family ceremonies.

There may be an element of hypocrisy involved, but it can be preferable to forcing 50 folk to sing 'Lord of the Dance' before they can escape to the pub.
