My uncle Maurice Newton was most certainly there then ,he went away to war just a few years later and returned to the post of musical director after the war ended .

Yes he was because my mother took us to see him. When he sang goodbye everyone waved their white handkerchief, ( if they had one). This must have been in the late 40s early 50s.
