Quite worrying that those making the decisions to close schools, after 1.2 inches of snow, are in control of our children's education.

Kind of sets a defeatist example for the youth of today. A better idea, considering the forecast, would be to suggest everyone gets up a bit earlier. Or is that too much like hard work?

Agree with that.

My kids' school has just had to text to confirm it is fully open. This is because some school bus drivers have had a brain fart and at 7am were refusing to let kids from certain years on. This then developed into a rumour that swept across social media which led to hundreds of kids thinking they had a snow day leading to lots of frazzled parents frantically trying to get confirmation. There was no confirmation because the school is ruddy open. Sent the kids back out at 7.25am and glad I did. Hope they don't get frostbit!

As far as secondary schools are concerned, I think you'll find it depends on the location of the school who are led largely by whether the bus services can make it to them.

Forge Valley was due to open at 10, but now they've decided "Due to the worsening weather conditions, the Headteacher has made the decision to close the school today."
