I've just received my ENCT pass, I've never had a pass before wasn't aware until last November that I was eligible for one.

Are they only for the buses in Sheffield or can you use them on the tram?

There was supposed to be a booklet inside with the info on but nothing came with it.

Yes you can use them on the sheffield supertram network, at the same times of day as you can on the buses.

 

You can also use the south Yorkshire issued pass on the train within south Yorkshire, and get half-fare travel.

 

You can use them in England and Wales, on any scheduled bus service, between 0930 in the morning and 2300 hours (11.00 pm)

I don't know whether the OP has a disability pass or an old age one. If it's a disability pass, you can use it at any time of day.

It's a disability with carers one. I had no idea I could have been issued with one 7 years ago.

If you are using your pass outside south Yorkshire, you are only permitted to use your pass in compliance with the local rules. So, say, you are in *wherever* and the local rules say you cannot use the pass before 0930, then the pass cannot be used before 0930, even though it would have been valid at that time in south yorkshire.

And as it's a mobility pass, you can use it at any time on the bus or tram in south yorkshire. You are also entitled to use it for free on the train into Leeds, Wakefield and Huddersfield.

Thank you so much for info. It's extremely rare of me to be out and about before 9.30am. The only time that happens is if I have hospital or Doctors appointments.

Doesn't the eligibility for free disabled travel on the trains only apply after 9am?

How do you get one of these? My husband has been disabled since August 1976 and we have only just learned we can get a local disability pass let alone a national one!

They will send you a form to fill in and you will need to supply the required information for one or more of the following:

blind or partially-sighted

deaf of without speech

have a disability which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on your ability to walk

do not have arms or have long-term loss of the use of your arms

have a learning disability

have been or would be refused a driver’s licence on medical grounds (other than on the grounds of persistent misuse of drugs and alcohol).

 

Supporting evidence from a professional eg specialist/doctor/therapist/consultant

 

Several weeks later you will get a letter which contains your "letter of entitlement".

 

Applying for the first time

 

Please contact your local council to confirm your entitlement. Once this has been confirmed, you can visit a Travel South Yorkshire Information Centre and take with you:

proof of your address

proof of your age

your letter of entitlement.

 

You should receive your pass within 7 working days.

 

Alternatively, you can apply by post using the ENCTS pass application form.

If you are refused a "letter of entitlement" demand the right to provide more information and if that does not work make a complaint. They have no appeal process.

The people there are very polite an well meaning but are using guidelines provided which predate the most recent Disability Act.
