Bark Busters..anyone had experience of them?

Recommended Posts

Personally I would stay clear of BB. I have used them, did not find it helpful and really felt it made aggression to other dogs worse. The pricing system does not make it easy if they are not for you, to move your custom.

I've used both Keith Dickinson (more old style but it works) and also Phil Jackson (talks common sense) . I've know people use boney Fido and also been happy but not experienced them myself.

Please let us know how you get on as often people ask about trainers, but we never hear the outcome is the training worked or not! Good Luck.

I know people who have changed to a raw food diet which had a very positive effect on the dogs behavior.

Phil Jackson, PJ dog training is very good with this kind of behaviour.

Personally, I would steer clear of Keith Dickinson. Yes, he uses the 'old way' - hitting your dog!! This is why I left his class, my dog was petrified of him:rant: - he ended up not even daring to come when I shouted him from sit stay. When he hit him that was the last straw :loopy: I didn't stay as I knew if he tried it again he would be getting a taste of his own medicine - not good for me or my dog.

Depending what breed you have it could either make it more aggressive or totally withdraw altogether! Keith uses bullying tactics - not assertive or professional - bullying. The only good thing he did was recommend my dog be changed to a raw diet (mostly because he sells it and nearly all the classes dogs are on it!!) - but it did help tbh.

I have heard good things about Phil Jackson - but have had no personal experience.

I can recommend Janice Jackson - she is barnsley based and is a behaviourist.

Good luck. :D

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply everyone. I shouldve said what the problem wasbut I think iI'd have probably burst into tears if I'd had to write it down earlier. Its a behavioral problem with a 6 year old cross breed. He has all kinds of issues but has recently started to be aggressive with us :|

He came to us at five weeks old with horrific bowel problems and an awful skin complaint. The breeder told us he was nine weeks but I only found out on his first of msny vets visits that he was just a tiny baby of five weeks. So, he missed all the socialising he would have got at that point and i do believe thats att the root of it all. Without going into too much detail (I'll be here all day!) we've reached a point where his behaviour is affecting day to day lifr. Its come to s point where the simplest actions can result in aggressive snapping...I honestly think he would bite me given the chance. He has to have a sedative to be groomed, they've refused to trim his nails. Giving him treatment for an eye infection comes close to lion taming! We need help!! I need someone who can tell us how to fix this little dogs issues...its tearing my family apart :|

Are you sure there isn't an underlying medical issue?

We had a cocker spaniel for 18yrs! the first few years he was an absolutely beautiful gentle dog then out of nowhere he started to snap and become aggressive, he became such a nuisance.. He would (given the opportunity) bite anyone!

It turned out (at the grand old age of 16) that he was suffering with his teeth.. He had 20 odd teeth taken out and after that he was back to the loving dog we once knew..

It was such a shame that his condition wasn't found sooner.
