Morrisons: Local Closures?

Recommended Posts

Yes, because corner shop prices are much much cheaper

Maybe not but Aldi/Lidl are and you can make up your shopping with local suppliers for fruit & veg etc, I do and it saves me a fortune, I will personally never shop in Tesco again, parasites.

Every little helps.

I say it every time we get better prices than tesco at aldi or other places.

We used to shop at Morrison's frequently long time ago when they treated the customers well but there came a time they got lazy and lost our custom.

100% correct it is way past time that these supermarkets had some independent competition. well done Aldi and Lidl, just as an after thought, Tesco had to pull out of the U.S because there prices was to high.
Don't forget Aldi and Lidl are just supermarkets - the German equivalent of Morrisons.

I've recently noticed that Aldi aren't the cheap store they once were, now that they have a good foot in the market. In Germany they aren't seen as cheapo stores

Pretty crap location for it really, especially when you consider there's a load of brown-field land going just a stones throw away. It's got much better motorway access for the HGV's and there's a load of land available up there.

I can't see the local council being massively happy with the increase in HGV traffic through Ecclesfield either.

Location wise, it seems good to me. Off the M1 at Thorpe Hesley, a mile down the hill and through the industrial estate. No need for HGVs going through Eccy village Edited by hyper

You mean there exists a supermarket where customers do get treated well??

You mean send the HGV's down Jumble Lane??

That tight and twisty road thats really not appropriate to take large numbers of such vehicles??

That route also has a couple of bridges, one at 3.9m so I don't know if their HGV's would fit under them.

Fair do's I stand corrected. I don't live there, but have been through by car or bike.

In my defence though, if what you both say is correct, who decided it was a good place for factories requiring deliveries?

They might take their trucks down the Ecclesfield road, you can get to the Meadowhall M1 junction fairly easily from there.

Don't believe everything you read in the papers or hear on the news.

Ecclesfield store is not turning into a warehouse for online deliveries. They already have a sufficient enough warehouse located in Sheffield that's doing well.

Wait to see what happens Morrisons have been around for years and will continue to be around for many more.

The 10 closures will probably be acquisitions from ex Netto or Co-op where the store size doesn't fit the business model. Most Morrisons are fairly big with Market Streets and specialist areas and that is their USP, if they dont have these elements within the stores, then they probably wont work.

Why would Sheffield be singled out when they have stores all over the country with a massive distribution centre and manufacturing base in Bridgwater? Personally I wouldnt miss them a bit, crap meat, old veg, the worst bread I've ever had and a thoroughly depressing shopping experience. The management structure seems 'top heavy' and I believe they are not good people to work for.
