Square Hole Comedy - Monday 12th January - Red Deer

Recommended Posts

Happy new year everyone! Square Hole hopes to contribute to your happiness this year by continuing to facilitate your enjoyment of some bloody marvellous comedians. We’d do more for your well-being if we could, but we’ve looked into it and comedy clubs aren’t eligible to become licensed providers of psychotherapy. But there will still be baked goods available, as part of a balanced diet.

Bobby Mair

Canada has generated so many stunning comedians and Bobby is no exception. Having won a lot of money in a nationally televised comedy competition there, he used it to move to the UK a few years ago and won more competitions here too. His exuberantly dark approach to joke telling was embraced by Doug Stanhope, who invited Mair to support him on international tour dates. He’s appeared on 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Russell Howard’s Good News Extra, Sean Walsh’s Late Night Comedy Spectacular, and Comedy Central even gave him his own web series, The Bobby Mair Show. His ability to traverse rage and vulnerability whilst maintaining his warmth and likeability may leave you in a state of hilariously emotional turmoil. His material has covered topics such as his bad luck of being adopted into a dysfunctional family, having to create a profile on a gay dating website to search for his father, and his sadness around being Justin Bieber’s cousin. He’s toured in South Africa, Candana, Sweden, Denmark and Sheffield.

‘He is the heir to Doug Stanhope, but no mere clone or wannabe. Bobby Mair is definitely his own comic.’ – The Scotsman

‘Bobby Mair performs with an invigorating blast, both energetic and slick’ – Chortle

‘A brilliant stand up. He’s either going to be a huge international comedy star or the funniest homeless man ever.’ – Jimmy Carr

‘A bona fide tour-de-force.’ – The Guardian

‘A brilliant comic mind.’ – London Is Funny

Hawkeye and Windy

Hawkeye and Windy are both classically trained musicians, but by 2013 they realised that their love for the ’90s pop ballad was too strong and that Mozart just wasn’t going to cut it anymore. Shunned by the classical music world, they began writing comedy songs and releasing low-budget music videos. Their poppy political satire and tuneful take-downs have since seen them through comedy competitions and ensured a welcome presence on comedy stages far and wide.

‘Annoyingly talented, refreshingly rude, bound to have their own Radio 4 series.’ – Caimh McDonnell

‘So wrong, they’re right.’ – Laughing Cows

‘Gifted musicians with a wicked sense of humour, Hawkeye and Windy are unafraid to mix up politics and pop with a bit of filth.’ – Mojo Bravo Comedy
