My Gran had the corner shop on Carter Place. I was born in the next house up in 1965.

And there's an old sign next to my workshop on Bardwell Rd

If it was the shop on the corner of Carter Place and Carter Rd the owner when I lived down there was Mrs Maltby.

God That takes me back I left when I got married in 1964..

Takes me back too.

I lived at number 13. Mary Maltby and I started school at Anns Road together, hand in hand.

Here's a photo of Carter Place (little 'ill) after everybody got TV and never went out anymore :)

The street sign is shown, circa 1960 I believe.

When we lived there the street was alive with people, coal lorries, a fishmonger, and missus' donkeystoning the steps

The best street sign I've seen is on Chippinghouse Road at its junction with Abbeydale Road, it has two hands with a finger pointing out to people that the road goes across Abbeydale Road and down to Broadfield Road, a reminder of a slower, gentler age.
