Children's homes or orphanages in Sheffield

Recommended Posts

Reading these posts has made me feel very humble

I guess most of us take having a proper family home for granted

God bless the orphans of the world

hello derek ..i am tommy botham, sorry to hear about tony i remember him very well.he was in 6 with me and we called him professor because he was so clever.when he went to king edwards he asked mr brooks if he could join the atc and he brought home a morse code machine.we had it under the floor in the pot store and somebody told miss lindley.she found it, ripped it out and threw it on the fire.

I also remember him gashing his wrist when he pushed a glass partition at school.

Were you at lydgate lane school at the same time as me? Can you remember me getting my head stuck in the school railings and the firemen getting me out?,

Hi,

I'm doing a bit of resarch on my family tree relating to my Great Grandfathers Uncle.

Does anybody have any information/photos etc relating to Alfred Deacon who was Superintendent at Fulwood Cottage Home 1906-1926?

Many thanks.

James

I remember the tree very well as I fell off it more than once. I also remember trying to climb the fence at the back of the homes with Tommy Botham but he got his arm impailed on a spike on top of the fence and the firemen had to get him off (Was nasty he still has the scars apparently)

Do you remember climbing up inside the outhouse where the dustbins were kept and hiding from Miss Linley?

The Grove was on Broomgrove Rd ,( still is but I think it belongs to Hallam Uni now ), had a big snooker room and a pear tree hanging over the wall at the back.

Had a couple of weeks there in the early 50's before moving on to 99 Halifax Rd and Miss Backhouse. Happy days.

regards Mick.

.......does anyone know if that is now the hallam uni nursery? ...we heard that it was but didn't know if it was a 'story'

----- i went to the pictures and couldn`t find a seat,

------ when i found a seat, i fell fast a sleep

------ skinner banana long legs-- skinner banana feet.

Does anyone know if there was a BLUE COAT school/Home in the Sheffield area, around 1900. Google mentions several in other towns, but not Sheffeld. Thanks.
