A tractor clearing the snow has just gone up and down Broadhead road at Deepcar could be doing just the stubbin estate .

Tractor has been on my road. The snow has covered it again. Losing battle until it stops.

Morning all!

 

Been out with the dog, big flakes falling fast, the conditions for disruption during journeys are ripe, be careful!

 

The fronts are now so slow moving that it will linger and persist snowing. Winds changed to a straight Westerly again but there's enough there to add depth to what we already have on the ground. It will continue to snow after rush hour and into the morning, so worth keeping an eye on.

Supertram - normal service on all routes

 

National Rail - normal service on all Sheffield lines

 

Stagecoach buses - the following routes have alterations:

25 Woodhouse - City - Bradway Not serving Chadwick, or Wollaton Road. Terminating at Mother Red Cap

52 Woodhouse - City -Hillsborough Not able to serve Heavygate

57 Sheffield - Stocksbridge Not serving Stocksbridge only using Manchester Road

79 Ecclesfield - Fox Hill - Batemoor Not serving Wilcox Road/Foxhill, turning left onto Queens Road

79A Chapeltown - City - Batemoor Not serving Batemoor, turning at Castle Road

83 Ecclesfield - City - Millhouses Terminating at Hunters Bar not using Firshill

83A Ecclesfield - City -Fulwood Not serving Fulwood buses turning at Hunters Bar

88 Smithywood - City - Bents Green Not serving Netherside Road or Ringinglow Road

SL Middlewood Tram - Stocksbridge Can only serve Manchester Road buses turning at Unsliven Bridge

 

First buses - the following routes have alterations:

Service 19 - Being considered for start of service. To be updated.

Service 20/20A - Owing to conditions, we are unable to operate on Derbyshire Lane or Scarsdale Road. Buses will run normally to Heeley, then straight along Woodseats, right on Abbey Lane and will terminate at the roundabout at Hutcliffe Wood shops. In north, 20A will not serve Donovan Road.

Service 25A - Not using Chadwick Road. Between Manor Park and Fishponds, buses will use Prince of Wales Road, Castlebeck Avenue.

Service 35/36 - Not serving Jenkin Avenue, Beacon Way and Wincobank Lane - direct via Holywell Road. Missing out Merton Lane - straight up and down Newman Road.

Service 44 - Presently re-assessing route options. At present, buses normal to Manor Top, then Ridgeway Road, White Lane, Fox Lane and as normal to Birley / Crystal Peaks. Missing out Basegreen & Intake.

Service 47/48 - In the south of the City, normal to Heeley and East Bank Road, but will turn at the Daresbury Road junction. Buses are not able to serve past Newfield Green due to conditions on Blackstock Road and Leighton Road - so cannot serve these areas or the stop at Newfield Green itself.

Service 51 - Route mostly normal, but because of conditions on Charnock Hall Road, a revised route in operation in Charnock; this is White Lane, Carterhall Road, Charnock Dale Road, Arnold Avenue, Charnock Dale Road, Carterhall Road and White Lane.

Service 76 - Normal except missing Reney estate. Using Hemper Lane. In Wincobank, buses using Newman Road - omitting Merton Lane.

Service 81 - Not operating around Acorn Drive.

Service 84 - Unable to serve Loxley. Operating normal to Ben Lane, then Hallowmoor Road to bottom, around Malin Bridge gyratory and back up Hallowmoor Road.

Service 85 - Not serving Grenoside village or around Fox Hill. Operating straight up Halifax Road.

Service 95 - Buses will operate normally to South Road and then turn using Hillsborough Interchange. This is owing to a van parked opposite Tinker Lane terminus preventing buses from egress (one bus stuck). We are trying to get this moved.

 

TM Travel buses - following routes have alterations

Service 2 Not serving Penrith Road

Service 30 Not servingTithe Barn Lane

Service 61/62 Not serving High Bradfield or High MatlockEstate

Service 65 Not serving Great Hucklow, Foolow or Eyam

Service 218 Suspended

Disappointed this morning Twirler, I wanted a good foot to sledge. This is pitiful no excuse not to be at work booooooooo! Please do a smo dance for next 2 days!

I have always regarded hail as being hard little balls of ice and sleet as being more like rain with a bit if ice mixed in.

 

So apparently there is:

 

Graupel (or soft hail), which is when water sticks to a snowflake and freezes

 

Ice pellets, which are smaller than hail

 

Snow grains, tiny flat ice grains

 

Rain-and-snow-mixed, which is what it sounds like.

 

And other stuff too

I saw one of those supertram link buses going down Stannington before 7am.Not sure how he'd get on trying to get back up though!
