TheTwirler   10 #1303 Posted January 29, 2015 Morning all!  Been out with the dog, big flakes falling fast, the conditions for disruption during journeys are ripe, be careful!  The fronts are now so slow moving that it will linger and persist snowing. Winds changed to a straight Westerly again but there's enough there to add depth to what we already have on the ground. It will continue to snow after rush hour and into the morning, so worth keeping an eye on.
 Share this content via...

Dannyno   19 #1307 Posted January 29, 2015 I have always regarded hail as being hard little balls of ice and sleet as being more like rain with a bit if ice mixed in.  So apparently there is:  Graupel (or soft hail), which is when water sticks to a snowflake and freezes  Ice pellets, which are smaller than hail  Snow grains, tiny flat ice grains  Rain-and-snow-mixed, which is what it sounds like.  And other stuff too
 Share this content via...
