Gritters have been out all day. The conditions are insane. They did their best. Anyone driving out in this must be crazy.

Whats the meteorological term for what's coming down in s35 now - like frozen polystyrene balls that hurt like hell when they hit you in the face when walking the dog

They didn't really stand a chance with all the sleet and rain we've had today.

Exactly, and it was raining before it snowed so most of it will have been washed away. They can only do so much, though they should have saved most of their man power to plough and grit through the night (you'd hope they have?).

We are in the middle of a mass of snow, mostly falling about 4mm per hour but anything up to 2" per hour in flurries. Hard to tell what is behind that as it is not snowing over the Irish Sea much but instead is waiting until landfall before it starts to snow, so at the moment we aren't getting much warning at all about what it will be like beyond 1 hour in front.
