monkey104   10 #38 Posted December 12, 2014 (edited) Anyone else read the thread title as "Cu#ts in Police service"  Just you...  ---------- Post added 12-12-2014 at 15:04 ----------  Agreed they have more credibility than those others you mention but they're not much to beat really. An increase in available technology yes, but the Police don't use all the technology available to them and with the loss of places such as Wetherby Science Lab, do everything on the cheap now.  Changes in Society, i.e, more people who can spend their lives sat on the backsides whilst the welfare state looks after them, so perhaps not as many packs of bacon stolen from the Asda.  Less car crime due to vehicle technology - agreed but this is obviously down to vehicle manufacturers, not the Police.  More online fraud - agreed. However, this is massively significant as it involves huge amounts of cash.  What was it the man said? - "Lies, damned lies and statistics". Gathering figures for the sake of it just to pronounce, propoganda style, a drop in crime is worthless.  Only the most gullible believe that crime is really falling. Ask your friends/neighbours, etc, if they'd bother phoning the Police for anything other than the most serious of crimes or a crime number for an insurance claim.  Actually crime figures have risen due to vehicle technology. The reason being that new cars are near impossible to break in so thieves are actually breaking in to owners property to take the car keys hence 2 in 1s. A burglary and a vehicle theft. 999tigger   10 #39 Posted December 12, 2014 As above, the ONS figures aren't based on RECORDED crime. They are from the national crime survey and include UNREPORTED crimes:  Just ignore him he clearly doesnt know how the statitsics are collected or what role the ONS plays. hed rather trust his own experience. He might learn something if he bothered to educate himself bu reading up on this matter.  Crime statistics have always been multifaceted and challeneging to record. Id rather hve what they provide than someone guessing. Of penistone 999 wants to tell us how he would do it differently then am listening, but you should start by learning how they are collected in the first place. He wasn't saying that the ONS report was wrong or that it only showed recorded crime.  Blimey, must be Christmas, me standing up for Jeremy Clarkson Mk2...
