Money money money. It is getting sicker and sicker and will all blow up one day.

More tension more strikes and then they need labour to fix it all again one day and then Tories blame labour for doing it all wrong.

It is an ongoing repeating circle.

It was apparently closed due to unforseen circumstances. If its not an official strike then cant the company sack the workers. That would solve the problem then hire people who actually can be bothered to turn up.

Ah, the results of privatising and outsourcing continue to deliver their expected results.

The blame for all this lies firmly at the councils door. There was never any of this farce before they subbed out the running of the dump it sites to their buddies at Veolia. Veolia are purely and simply only interested in accepting rubbish they can sell on for a profit. thats why they make it as difficult as possible for people to get rid of their rubbish. the list of things they wont accept gets longer by the week . back in the day when the council run the dumps themselves EVERYTHING got dumped there , nothing was fly tipped and the tax payer wasnt left to foot an ever increasing bill to clear up the fly tipping.

shorter opening hours , less days they are open , barriers going up to stop big vans , a growing list of items they wont accept has all lead to an explosion in fly tipping . 20 years ago , the tip lads were on a good number as they got a nice weekly "bonus" from the lads with the vans for letting them in to tip , the lads also made a few quid by selling on anything worth owt ,and everyone was happy until council stupidity lead to the mess we see today. fly tipping is only going to get worse as the council and their bed fellows at Veolia continue to restrict who an use the dump it sites ,and what can be dumped in there.

In sure old Jack Scott will be in the Star soon waffling on about fly tipping again , but he will conveniently forget that his masters in the town hall are the biggest fly tippers in the city right now ,something they hoped to get away with until their industrial fly tipping in Graves park was brought to light.

To be honest you cant blame Jack Scott for this. It appears, unless someone can correct this, that they have just walked out. Surely they can be sacked for this as its not supported by union or an organised legal strike.

You are absolutely right... I am old enough to remember when council tips were introduced - as a free public service - to stop the fly-tipping that was rampant. Mind you, what else were you supposed to DO with the stuff back then? There was no legal way to get rid of it.

Now, the whole service had been branded as "recycling" - and more and more charges and restrictions introduced - trying to commercialise what SHOULD be a SERVICE - but is increasingly seen as an environmental stick to beat the public over the head with: The attiude is: "How DARE you produce rubbish that we can't sell at a profit - you environmental criminal, you". This isn't about private vs Council operation though, really - the "recycling" mantra has taken hold in councils in a BIG way - even though the system costs far more, and most of the expensively-sorted-and collected "recycling" ends up in landfill - here or abroad - because there just isn't a market for most of it. If you artificially increase the supply of something - way past the demand for it as a raw material - the price, and value, will inevitably drop through the floor. It's this basic law of economics that is driving the problems. Our Rotherham tip at Dinnington apparently can't get its bottle banks and tin/clothing containers emptied - because the firms that are supposed to buy the stuff from the council won't collect it because they simply can't sell it. It's the whole "recycling" fallacy that is to blame.

I repaired an expensive electric device with parts I found from a fly tipped industrial fan-motor I found near canal last month.

Great recycling the parts would have cost me £40 if I had ordered them.

It was coincidence this happened but even fly tipping has its benefits sometimes.

Prefer to pay £40 for parts and get the recycling sites back open.

I basically agree with your sentient here but the tips/"recycle centres" are what they are today because of EU legislation.

Soon brand new of the shelf dysons vacuum consuming lots of energy will be gone thanks to EU saying they consume too much energy.

In certain countries it is now illegal to sell the old fashioned Thomas Edison style bulbs they also consume too much and dont last enough hours creating more waste. UK has not done it yet but it will happen.

Much more to come this is just the beginning of something that needs to go much further.

Soon you will be told how much energy power/consumption for your vehicle is appropriate. Etc. etc. etc. Just wait and it will come.

We live in a very wasteful society that creates more rubbish for our children than we may be aware of.

Recycling is more important than most of us realize. We got an expensive AAA office chair someone threw away because some metal plate had come loose, just needed welding that was all and it was fixed but this lazy wasteful society throws it away and buys a new one.

Many things can be easily mended, fixed but so often a moment of malfunction is used to create more and more waste.

We see our old car drive around Sheffield sometimes. Really happy that someone else still enjoys it. We thought it was toast but a friend repaired it and sold it again, saving it from becoming waste just yet.

Are you SURE that NOTHING was fly tipped back in the day?

Other than tyres, what else will they no longer accept?

I agree there should be one day per week where a tip is open up to about 8.30 pm for those that can’t get in normal hours (especially as one day in the week the tip is closed all day). The barriers are probably a very good thing, as c/tax payers were paying for trades people to get rid of trade waste. Probably a lot of hazardous waste like asbestos in the vans too.
