stormvixen   10 #13 Posted October 2, 2014 53s aren't suffering with Leppings Lane traffic at 7.30am when they come out of Olive Grove straight up to Lowedges though, which is generally when you're left waiting over half an hour for a bus that's supposed to be every ten minutes..... it's horrendous! lebomb   10 #15 Posted October 2, 2014 I wrote to First recently explaining that when waiting for a 51 one night, neither the 18:40, 18:57 NOR 19:17 turned up and I was eventually forced to call a taxi so not to be late. I received a reply letter simply saying "sorry for your inconvenience however there were no missing 51's that night." Really helpful First, thanks for that (and for implying that I'm either lying, blind or stupid!!)
 Share this content via...
detheridge02 Â Â 10 #16 Posted October 2, 2014 The 84 is also a complete shambles with buses sometimes 10 minutes early to over 30 minutes late at Loxley. In the evenings its a nightmare when the drivers change over IF the replacement driver has turned up. In 3 instances in the least 7 days the replacement driver hasn't been there. Yesterday I gave up waiting and had walked from Snigg Hill to past Tesco on Infirmary road until an 84 pulled up (about 15-20 minutes). Last week two buses had no replacements and the week previous I got on at Hallam Uni only to be turfed off at Snigg Hill. People waiting there said it was the third 84 to either not turn up or terminate there. Thankfully I only have a weekly ticket then it's back to Stagecoach Supertram. At least they mainly run on time and are every 10 minutes. Well worth the walk to Malin Bridge.
 Share this content via...
little tank   10 #17 Posted October 2, 2014 And yet they First still put adverts saying 90% of busses run on time Not 1 35/36 has been on time this week and no theres no major traffic attached 7am in the morning .SYTP are no use what's so ever. Cassie57 Â Â 10 #18 Posted October 2, 2014 I rely on the 38 to get me to work at Meadowhall. Over the last 3 months I have complained about missing buses at least 4 times. I complained to First each time and got a letter back from them with various reasons as to why this happened. Each reply also included a South Yorkshire day saver ticket. Whilst I am grateful for the free travel I would prefer a reliable bus service!
 Share this content via...
little tank   10 #19 Posted October 2, 2014 To be honest a free bus pass is not much use when you have to get a taxi or be late for work. Not that first are botherd by that .
 Share this content via...

It doesn't help when you are on your final warning at work for being late either!
 Share this content via...
arrodbo   10 #21 Posted October 2, 2014 I live in Cornwall and as an ex Sheffielder I read the Forum to keep up to date with things. First buses got the contract last year and the service is useless and non existant. We live in a village where a bus is supposed to arrive every 2 hours, well it fails on a daily basis. All the Cornish folk cannot believe the appalling "service" so it must be a Nationwide crap operation..
 Share this content via...

It's so painfully obvious that First don't give a damn about it or any of the passengers.  In July and August I think no more than 10% of the 35/36 buses I got on my way home from work were on time. Many of them were 15-20 minutes late (and those electronic timetables on the bus stops always said 3 minutes to go...) and on a couple of occasionals no buses arrived for over an hour.  If there had actually been a traffic reason for any of this I'd have been fine with it but it's infuriating to see every other bus route in Sheffield running normally whilst your own, travelling a route that hardly has any serious traffic on it, frequently disappears into the Twilight Zone. So these disappearing buses could be adding to their figures. Also as an earlier poster quite rightly said the roadworks account for delays not disappearances. Happ Hazzard   10 #24 Posted October 2, 2014 Transport in Sheffield is appalling in every regard. And the council don't care one bit. They are still stuck with the Socialist mindset rooted in the 1970s
 Share this content via...
