Without wanting to, but failing, sound pedantic, Hurt is actually a Nine Inch Nails song, so Cash can't be credited with writing them.

However, it is a damn fine cover! :-)

And Green Fields of France was written by Eric Bogle, but I was listing what I think are the most poignant versions of the songs mentioned.

I don't think I credited johnny Cash with having written Hurt,but I will re-read my post:rolleyes:

Even YouTube ridding itself of the video can't begin to mask the horror that is that song. Excellent emetic though.

Here you go.

No worries.

You didn't credit him, but the title of the thread is song lyrics, not versions.

Like I said, it was just me being pedantic.

Its tough, really tough, but Hospice by the Antlers is an album about a destructive relationship between a young man and a girl who is dying (which sounds it should be maudlin or exploitative, but is neither).

If you can get through that whilst reading the lyrics and not sched a tear then you are probably a robot.

I've got plenty of heartbreaking music but nothing quite like that.
