Mass shootings in America

Recommended Posts

It can't be long before Michael Moore makes a sequel to Bowling For Columbine. What a bunch of gun loving buttheads just south of where I live.

I have a strong feeling this thread will forever be in the top twenty of postings because until the NRA is decapitated by some gutsy political entity, this crap is not going away anytime soon

The thing is that he doesn't need make a sequel, nothing has changed since Columbine. Guns are still widely available, anything but the availability of firearms is getting the blame, especially the focus on mental health and you're right, a Government that doesn't appear to have the slightest inclination to do anything about it.

Yes, I know the problems that were highlighted in Moore's film are the same, maybe a bit worse, but there have been so many mass shootings and changes in Presidents since then. That being said, I am sure Michael would find a lot of people to confront and ridicule. Charlton Heston has now died, for example.

I didn't blame the gun. I just gave my opinion on them. I think they should be 100% illegal, all over the world, including for hunting and sport. Only the armed forces should have access to them. I see no use for them what so ever other than killing someone or something......not my thing.

Cars are nothing like guns!

As I've already said, guns have 1 purpose, killing. They are not necessary in everyday life.

I have to agree, I have killed thousands of paper targets, but I always try to hit them in there little red heart so they don't suffer in any way.

sadly the NRA and the politics in general is so entrenched, NOBODY will even try at gun control

Technically I have a mental health issue so would you ban me from having a gun? We need to be careful not to stigmatise people with non-violent or dangerous mental health conditions while making sure we stop those who are a threat to buying guns. Hard one to do.

i agree with this, as well as people with certain mental health issues not causing issues, theres also people who dont show a mental illness UNTIL they commit one of these crimes.

ALSO even if you ban one of these people from owning a gun, they are so widespread whats the likelyhood of them taking a gun from say parents etc. kids always manage to find hidden things (like booze, porn...gun keys)

Remember the song " Eve of Destruction" Famous line goes,

"You're old enough to kill but not for voting" Of course this was in reference to all the kids( soldiers) being shipped to Vietnam at that time.

I have seen all the youngsters first hand coming over the border at Niagara Falls and in Windsor because they can't have a drinking night out on their side of the border. Bunch of hypocrites them Yanks.

Of any kind? Saying a mental health issue is much like saying 'an injury'. Over 10% of people are on anti-depressants so you can imagine the kinds of numbers of people who haven't seen anyone about a problem and are just living with it. I'm just saying it's far too wide a statement to 'ban' anyone with a mental health issue. Perhaps everyone should just be banned for owning a gun? Sorted.

What kind of mental health issues would you be ok with for someone to own a firearm with?
