At first I thought it was the wood recycling/composting place that had gone up. I cycle past a lot, and you can see giant mounds of chippings in the yard as the machines do their stuff.

I can't really find much info on the industrial estate itself and what is exactly located where.

Looked at your pics and the place on fire is end on to the green recycle place. The trouble is the compost steams with heat by the process so it has been on fire before and it took some putting out,and it is full at the moment.

There's a brook (Blackburn Brook) that separates them - I imagine the fire service will be pumping water straight out of it, they might have this put out quicker than expected.

Looking at the map you posted in your last photo that looks like the big building where the skip hire company are based . If it is them, they use that building as a waste transfer station and its always full of rubbish .

Sky News have just said that the building(s) may contain asbestos and have advised all residents nearby to keep windows closed.

The wind is unusually blowing from the east - straight over my house :-(. Is a fine ash everywhere, and it stinks. The crew can only use so much water to protect the the local environment and not fill the stream with plastic waste. Was 2000 tons of plastic in an asbestos shed, and the paint sprayers next door went up too. Still shut off.

Local schools kept kids indoors all day due to the fumes

The fumes are really bad, the wind has dropped now and it is just hanging.
