Password for hospital appointment

Am I the only person in Sheffield who hasn't been given a password for use when making/changing a hospital appointment?

 

I have an appointment for the Hallamshire which I wanted to change. When I rang I was told I needed a password for reasons of patient confidentiality. My hospital and NHS numbers were not good enough, so I had to ring my gp to get this password. Apparently I should have had a letter which I never received.

 

So if you haven't got your password, contact your gp to get it.

I have got my password which is the same for all my appointments including ones at different hospitals, but to be honest I have never used or been asked for my password???

I've been a regular visitor to both Sheffield hospitals and I have never even heard of this.:huh:

Curiouser and curiouser.

 

The man on the phone made it quite plain he could do nothing without the password.

 

I wonder if perhaps it is only some gp surgeries who have signed up for this system.

Never heard of it, either and I gave cartloads of doctor/hospital appointments. I have three next week alone.

I may be wrong but I think that NHS staff can put a 'marker'on a patients records if there has been an issue with a potential for breeching confidentiality in the past ie if some one is an inpatient and is selective about who is given information about their condition etc. This may have been done in error. Ring the clinic again and ask to speak to the supervisor to sort it out.

I spoke to a doctor at my surgery yesterday and the letters were apparently sent out on the 27th Aug, so perhaps it is still on its way.

 

Very strange that I am the only forummer so far to have experienced this practice. Even the one person who has a password has never had to use it. Perhaps I just got an awkward beggar on the phone.

Maybe the person was new or a temp.

Ring the hospital again and ask to speak to the clerical supervisor for that clinic to get to the bottom of it.

I have one and have used it to make the appointment, it came in the post about a mth ago the letter said i had to make my own appointment.

i went to northern gen couple weeks ago i had letter month before had to ring to confirm appointment was not asked for a pass word just the usual

hi, if you or your gp has booked a referal to see a specialist at the hospital via the patient online facility then yes you can access and rebook the appt etc and there is a password, i got a print out conf of my appt and another with the password conf when this was done for me a good year or two ago now so it's not a new thing
