Is there anywhere I can get specific chillies?

Recommended Posts

For instance chipotles, ancho, pasilla, poblano etc

I have a new Mexican cookbook and there's no point following a specific recipe to then just bung any old chillies in.

Try some of the supermarkets eg Sainsburys etc! They usually have the variety name on the packets.

Can I suggest that you grow your own? My uncle grows over 50 sorts of chillies in one small greenhouse, and from one or two plants of each he grows enough to use some fresh, preserve others and supply a local shop too.

Not much use for this year, but why not grow some of your own next year. Chilli plants will grow happily on a sunny windowsill.

This place has a good range of seeds and plenty of different dried chillis.

ETA: Great minds eh, Medusa :)

Very good. As well as the usual chillies and the birds eyes they had Scotch Bonnets, bunches of dried Guindilla chillies and Nora peppers and some Italian ones that I've forgotten the name of.

I noticed in Street Food Chef on Arundel Street the other day that they have started selling small packs of dried chillies.

They had

Mulato

Ancho

Pasilla

Chipotle &

Habanaro

I think they were about £3 a pack but that doesn't seem far off the going rate for these types.
