Yes you're right: it was the doomed Coalition Government, not New Labour.

But:

a. it does not seem to have "ma[d]e the police more accountable through oversight by a directly elected individual, who will be subject to strict checks and balances by locally elected representatives"; and

b. this too shall pass (probably into oblivion).

i don't think anyone actually wanted it but we got it anyway.

we had one for the mayor, i think the pcc just arrived....
