Deputy PCC resigns her post

Recommended Posts

The deputy of the under-fire South Yorkshire police and crime commissioner Shaun Wright has stood down saying she believes he should have resigned over the Rotherham child abuse scandal.

Tracey Cheetham said it was vital for people to have confidence in the office, and said it would have been "the right thing" for him to go.

Wouldn't it be great, if the degree of confidence/arrogance shown by an individual matched their ability to do the job?

Why is that? As I understand it, he started in the job only a couple of years ago. Do you wish him to be a fall guy for the failings of South Yorkshire Police between 1997 and 2013?

Won't hounding him out of office simply mean that someone takes his place who is less experienced and less able to make improvements?

The issue is that prior to this he was the cabinet member for child services in rotherham during part of the period when the child abuse was going on.

possibly, but the general feeling is that his involvement and inaction while at the council has compromised his ability to implement the changes to the culture at syp which are clearly needed.

Yes he has only been the police commissioner for 2 years but......................

Mr Wright was the council cabinet member responsible for children's services in Rotherham from 2005 to 2010.

They need to get it sorted so that anyone in this job can be sacked if they refuse to go as currently no one can actually sack him!

certainly something needs to be done to make it easier to remove an incumbent pcc but it shouldn't be too easy else we'll be changing them every other month.

No-one wanted the mug in the first place, clearly the guy is frigging useless so there's no way we want him in charge of the police.

What "experience" do you think Wright has that enables him to do his job effectively? Maybe his experience of being politically responsible for children's services in Rotherham during the time that children were being raped on an industrial basis in the town? Or maybe his inability to address aggressive and offensive behaviour by a senior officer in a meeting he was chairing (see the Jay report for details), or his failure to blow the whistle on a bigoted and misogynistic culture within the Labour council?

Frankly, the man is utterly unsuitable to do the job, and the undignified nature of his leaving (as surely he eventually will) shows the nature of the man

A majority of the people that voted for him knew very little about him other than the party that supported him then and disowns him now.
