rad   10 #169 Posted August 27, 2014 This is a sensitive topic and emotions are going to be high but please can we refrain from bickering, insulting one another and making sweeping generalisations about racial/ethnic groups? Thanks.
 Share this content via...
rainbow2411   11 #170 Posted August 27, 2014 there is a petition on change.org but cant post links yet.. it reads..  Shaun Wright was the Rotherham Council cabinet member responsible for Child Services in Rotherham between 2005 and 2010. This period was covered by the recently released damning report in to child abuse and exploitation in the Rotherham area. Shaun Wright is currently the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner.  The catastrophic failure of the child services dept in Rotherham during his tenure demonstrates his unsuitability for the role of representing the people of Yorkshire. He is unfit for the public office of South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner and we demand his immediate resignation.  if someone could please post the link that would be good.  I have checked the site but this petition is not listed has anyone seen it? dhs1   10 #171 Posted August 27, 2014 in this case they were, but just down the road in Barnsley most people convicted of child sexual abuse are white. this isn't an issue of origin, religion and skin colour, it's an issue of men sexually abusing children and this crosses whatever boundaries you want to draw around people and to simply focus on the boundaries fails abused children in just the same way as Rotherham council and police failed these children.  it's very clear that gangs of white men were sexually abusing children on this scale up to the 1970s and 80s and similar cover ups were going on then. there are probably gangs of white men doing it now they just don't make it into the papers. on the other hand it's probably harder for a large gang of white men to get away with this because organisations such as childline lifted the lid and shone a lot of light on their activities and as a result the "white community", for want of a better word, has been forced to face up to the fact that the person next door who is your friend might also be a child abuser.  You cant build a house by putting a roof up. The deep rooted problems need to be removed first.   One of the biggest problems is that no one wants to face the fact that it's your neighbour, husband, partner, brother, father, best mate doing this. It's far easier to blame the bogeymen of celebrities or an ethnic group. Sexual abusers come from all ethnic groups and classes. You will know one even if you are not aware of it. top4718   838 #172 Posted August 27, 2014 Sorry BF but you are talking BS. The reality is that what happened in Rotherham was not a freak event. It has happened across the country and we have no doubt only seen the tip of the iceberg. People have consistently behaved in the same way and not because they are all crap at their jobs but because the culture within the public sector makes people behave how they have behaved.  If you read the report then you will see the issues were identified many times over the years (by the people at the bottom who you blame and insult) and each time the case was dropped because someone, somewhere in the chain or command, lost their nerve. If people at the bottom started to turn a blind eye then it was because the message had been received that the people at the top didn't want to know, it would go nowhere and why risk your career/livelihood by rocking the boat?  So let's try not to blame people for behaving like people and climb down off those high horses shall we? The blame lies at the feet of those who have pushed the political correct agenda too far and created a culture (particularly within the public sector) where people are on egg-shells when it comes to matters involving an ethnic or cultural minority. Let's blame the people who seek to silence the criticism of those that do dare speak up, with cries of 'xenophobe', 'bigot' and 'racist'.  Excellent post Zamo, I agree on this 100%. The Rotherham case will probably be just the tip of the iceberg and other circumstances will emerge where the race issue as been used as a smokescreen, most people with common sense can see this a mile off, the excusers and objectors on here are typical of the people who are the root of the problem. PLEASE"  Interesting how you can make what you perceive as balanced interventions but have the above disgusting sentence as your signature, no irony there, not least because such attitudes massively contributed to the obscene events discussed in this thread, the girls didn't matter, etc. Edited August 27, 2014 by gamezone07
 Share this content via...
sonnyboyblue   10 #174 Posted August 27, 2014 Why are the the media and people talking about Shaun Wright standing down? He should be arrested and questioned! Politicians, Police and the BBC hmmm...   I believe there is an offence of "Misconduct in a Public Office" I am not sure if he is in breach of this offence but surely the possibility of prosecution should be considered.  I think Mr Wright hanging on to his job is pathetic. He should resign. Immediately.
 Share this content via...

He can't be disciplined by Rotherham Council as he no longer works for them. He can't be sacked or disciplined by his current employers as the report was not about his current position. Why is no one questioning why adult men are hanging around in groups in derelict buildings?  Gossip and general net twitching should be exposing at least some of these abusers as wrong uns.  Or are the victims so far under the radar it isn't even registering that it's wrong.  Victim blaming, misogyny, snobbery, rreligious contempt. ... **** that. Whatever the reason it needs stamping out.
 Share this content via...

Just because he say's he knew nothing about it doesn't mean it's the truth. That's why the Police question people.
 Share this content via...

You will know one even if you are not aware of it.  Pointing out that the offenses committed are not exclusive to any one culture/class/race does not alter the fact that there is a particular problem in the Muslim community. It also doesn't change the fact that the over zealous application of political correctness has created a culture in this country where people are afraid to criticise or accuse people from a minority group and as a result criminals have escaped justice and victims been left to suffer ongoing abuse.  Both issues need addressing.
