megalithic   10 #3 Posted August 24, 2014 Have you tried reinstalling the operating system.  He would have had to after installing the new hard drive.  I invariably find it's either a ram problem or just general overheating. Maybe it needs a clean out and the thermal paste renewing.
 Share this content via...
james440 Â Â 10 #4 Posted August 24, 2014 Doubt it would be something that drastic and money wasting just reinstall windows.
 Share this content via...
megalithic   10 #5 Posted August 24, 2014 Doubt it would be something that drastic and money wasting just reinstall windows.  Why ? If he's installed a new hard drive then windows has been newly installed.
 Share this content via...

woah   10 #8 Posted August 25, 2014 What do the blue screens say - any particular error codes or similar mentioned?  Also, do you know what operating system the laptop is running - most probably Windows 7 or 8, but it may be Windows Vista or Windows XP. megalithic   10 #10 Posted August 25, 2014 What MoZ said. If there's two sticks of ram in there then try running each one alone for a few hours. Pretty easy to diagnose this way and costs you nothing. also narrows down what it could be.
 Share this content via...
roo2gazza   10 #11 Posted August 25, 2014 Remove RAM & HDD and using an isopropyl alcohol (or rubbing alcohol) clean both connectors, make sure its connection points are free of dust and dirt. I highly suspect that it will be RAM modules issue, just to make sure, use different RAM sticks and try re-installing windows once more.  I not have the windows disk as it was put on in a pc shop
 Share this content via...
Jtls44 Â Â 10 #12 Posted August 25, 2014 Please post any error messages you see and exactly where abouts the blue screen happens. Â Is it when windows is just loading or while your in windows? Blue screens are rarely operating system related. Unless it's a driver causing the issue. They are usually hardware related.
 Share this content via...
