Health Post: Has anyone ever suffered with severe lump in throat?

This has happened to me many times, but I thought today, that I would shout out and ask if anyone else out there has had this happen to them?

I was woken by the feeling just like I had swallowed a large boiled sweet. Really painful, right in the middle of my chest, down at the bottom of my throat. The pain spread out, almost as though it was swelling, so much so that I was unable to talk, just keep calm and wait for it to go?

I've been to the Doctor and she said it was what is known as a 'lump in your throat

Whenever it happens, try to work out exactly what you did or ate beforehand. It could be an allergy, or a reaction to a certain event.

'Lump in throat' doesn't sound like a medical diagnosis to me - you might want a second opinion!

Thanks for the reply Maz ... It was this morning, so I'd not eaten anything. I did have some stress issues that, perhaps that what is causing it?

Will definitely ask when I see another Doctor.

I suffer from acid reflux as a result of taking strong medication over a long time, as Medusa says this can cause a feeling of a lump in the throat but I find that it is always accompanied by a vile tasting burning sensation too.

I take a prescribed medicine (along the lines of Milk of Magnesia) and this invariably shifts it in minutes.

I would always seek a doctors advice though.

Agree with the above, but would add that there are a number of possible causes for this and without seeing a doctor you cannot be sure which it is.

Please see a different GP!

Does this happen on a regular basis? It could be stress related, but it could just as easily be caused by acid reflux.

Ahh, possibly. I've not taken my omeprazole for a few days. X. Thank you.
