Terry -The Roman Ridge was my local when we lived at Maple Croft Rd from 1968 until we left Sheffield in August 1976. Were you there during that time?

John

would that be the picture of the re-opening with the football players? yes we were the first managers in there, as it was always a tenancy before, we were in about 4 yrs, after moving from The Roman Ridge, and after Arbour we went in Timbertop ps that photo comes a lot inthe Star retro, it is also the first picture in a book called Sheffield landlords and Landladies

That's where saw it Terry.

Hi Brian, further to your post 1651 and my response response post 1655...

We had bonfires in the back yard. There was only our house, no 5, and Mr and Mrs Bell's, no 7, between the toilet block and the wall seperating us from the next yard. Therefore we had a little private bonfire and fireworks.

Dad used to make it in the upturned metal bin lid with some wood and coal in supported on few bricks. One year it got too hot and after roasting chestnuts Dad realised the tarmac had melted beneath it.

He mixed some mortar and skimmed it over the next day.:hihi:

I had a 3 wheeler bike after the scooter on my profile pic . I think Dad bought it from a man at the allotments on Earl Marshall Road. Second hand, at least, and no mudguards. I thought it was fantastic. :) After my brother let the rag and bone man have it for a baloon  my second bike was a 2 wheeler from the same man all refurbished and shiny black. Brilliant.

My third and last bike was a life lesson in trading up. I agreed to let Dad sell my Dinky Toys and Hornby Dublo train set at work as deposit for a new bike from Wiggys. Mother agreed to pay the HP. :D

Here I am with it in Firth Park in 1955 aged 13 going on 14....

Hi Jean,

Dennis Hale must have been in a different stream to me at Earl Marshall School therefore from what you say.

Here's my leaving pic taken in 1958 and the schools which I put on Earl Marshall Secondary thread some time ago. I'm middle back row....

I've located the school pics you mention. Could you guide me to your school pic and also your position on it please?

Peter.

Hi Peter.

Hope this finds you and your family well and in good health.

Thanks for the great photos.

Yes the cottages i dearly wanted to see are the one's you dug out for me

in the pic below.

Dare say Grimesthorpian forumers will remember them !

The cottages numbered 17,15,13,11,9 downhill from the old street gas lamp.

A great pre -war pic with the prominent gas lamp standing proudly.

Note , no TV aerials !

Peter.

Please accept my apologies for the delay of my response.

Have been in full training , plus doing various other things,

There just does'nt seem to be enough hours for me in a 24 hour day.

Coincidently 24 was the shirt number given to me for the "1964 STAR WALK ".

Hi Brian,

I'm afraid I don't know what's causing that, but I'm no expert.

I've clicked on them now and they come up ok.

However, I've realised that I get all the ads on now if I don't log into photobucket before looking at my pics on Forum. I've paid for ad free on photobucket and it usually works ok.

Hi Mick,

I thought they were the particular cottages you were after :)

Don't worry about any delays :).

Hello- apologies if this has been seen before (I have shared on Facebook)

I am in the process of writing a book about Sheffield pubs and I am looking for any stories or photos of pubs at Grimesthorpe. My father in law, Bob Crawley, grew up near the Old Bowling Green pub and has shared a few stories with me but any info (and especially pictures) people could provide by pm (I can provide an email if required) Im particularly looking for info on the Beehive, Brunswick, Crown, Ellesmere, Hodson Hotel, Prince of Wales, Victoria, Wellington, Who Can Tell Thanks!

I have a fair bit already but I have a number of blanks- particularly around the dates these pubs shut/ when demolition of surrounding housing took place.

Any help appreciated

Peter.

In the 50/60s the end cottage on the right was occupied by a family, name of Brand. Two sons I think were Malcom and Rodney.

The son living in the cottage on the left was Donald Pretty.
