Grimesthorpe Part 3

Recommended Posts

Hi Peter,

In response to your post 1761, the photo you sent below . . .

. . . http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh629/peterlaurence/Margarets%20Albums%20097_zpslxguz6y0.jpg

showing yourself with your pretty young 2nd wife, well i think there's a remarkable

coincidence with the following video . . .

The Human League . . . ' Don't you want me baby '.

Your photo showing it was taken in darkness with your car and you and your wife

both dressed in overcoats the ' mode of dress ' of the 60's and . . .

. . . 'The Human League ' lead singers Phil Oakey and Joanne Catherall dressed

similarly both in overcoats both with a car in attendance .

I think there' a striking resemblance between the two photos / video .

Be interesting what your own thoughts are Peter of the two photos and video.☺

Mick .

Hi Mick,

Thanks for your responce.

Yes there are similarities between the photos and video, although my car is a 1956 Austin a30 snapped in 1966. The Rover in the '80s video is some 30 years younger than my car. How time flies eh? :)

Incidentally, all the photos on my last few posts were of my dear late first wife.

Peter.

Hi Southey owl,

The video of the Human League just reminded me, Joanne Catherall is a Grimesthorpe Lass. I used to work with her father Les' at British Rail at Darnall, and they lived at the bottom of Crown Hill, then when the houses were being cleared for demolition they moved to Hackenthorpe.

Was Bob Pickering one of the large family that lived at the top of Botham St on the left looking down? If so there were about 10 children, probably even numbers boys and girls. The only other name that comes to mind is Roland. fleetwood

Hi St Petre, I lived at no. 17 Edgar Street from 1955 until it was demolished. My friends and neighbours were The Barkers, Sharps, Leggit, Kaczmarczyk, Cryers, Smiths, Trevor Barlow and The Braeley brothers on Lyons Street, I think you must have lived on Petre Street. We lived directly below The Dagenarts who lived on Petre Street. Cheers
