Grimesthorpe Part 3

Recommended Posts

Just in case anyone is wondering why there is a smiley face instead of a No.8 at the side of The Who Can Tell. I haven't got a clue. I edited a spelling mistake, the No.8 disappeared and the smiley face refuses to go away.

Thanks for the Prince of Wales Feathers info. Feathers, well thats something else I've learned.

Hi cat631,

I've been wondering if Feathers is correct, but see the post below which seems to confirm that at least two others have the same recollection of how I recall The Feathers. My parents have passed on long ago. Wish I could ask them about their memories, like one does.....

My memory tells me that there was a Prince of Wales Feathers heraldic badge sign hung on the Adsetts Street side of the pub. However I was only 14 when I left Grimesthorpe in 1957, having lived on Adsetts Street since birth, so I can't be 100% sure..

The name was/is used on lots of pubs. Here's one in London.....

Here's one in Birmingham not using the word 'Feathers' part of the name, but has a heraldic badge sign. Scroll about half way.....

Here's some info. about the heraldic badge.....

PS Have another look at my post 1719 pg 86 as I've put a photo on of a Magnet Ales sign. You should be able to see this one more easily :)

Peter.

Hi Sheila, Arbourthorne has been knocked down there are new

flats and houses being built on that site now.

Looks strange flats built acroos where the pub was.

I call up there to shops sometimes.

PS, we are talking Arbourthorne Hotel just off Norfolk Park. Brian :|

would that be the picture of the re-opening with the football players? yes we were the first managers in there, as it was always a tenancy before, we were in about 4 yrs, after moving from The Roman Ridge, and after Arbour we went in Timbertop ps that photo comes a lot inthe Star retro, it is also the first picture in a book called Sheffield landlords and Landladies

Terry -The Roman Ridge was my local when we lived at Maple Croft Rd from 1968 until we left Sheffield in August 1976. Were you there during that time?

Hi Brian and all,

My wife and I were in Sheffield last weekend. Took some pics of Ruthin Street. I've put some text underneath each pic. I'm sure your memories will fill the blank spaces in. :).....
