Grimesthorpe Part 3

Recommended Posts

Hi Sheila, I can't recall that incident at all, I didn't know many people on the bottom half of Hunsley St & that name doesn't ring any bells. Hope you are keeping O.K. Jean.

Hi johnpm - I had a new left knee 4yrs ago this weekend as a matter of fact, then a short time after that a hernia operation, it does set things off at the check gate going through airports though, other than that can't grumble. Wish you well John, I had reasonably quick recovery and am sure you will too. fleetwood

Hi Fleetwood, Thanks for your comments & good wishes. Hope you are reasonably well. Best wishes, John

I used to play with Gladys Clarke who used to live just over the wall from where we lived in Draper Street. I think she had a younger sister and a brother.

Hi Jean, can you recall a family that lived on Hunsley St the yard above Sutcliffes going towards Petre St called them Howard.Sure he got killed while working for Jimmy Childs the lorry tipped.Had two daughters Christine and Carol.Had a house fire next door to me two weeks ago, anyway i asked for donations of clothes to help the family as their house was gutted and lost everything and peoples generousity was phenominal.A Grimesthorpe lad turned up at my door no other than Les Rhodes. Was lovely to see him after all those years.x

Hi Brian,

I had to sadly give my Mother's old steps to charity due to lack of storage space when my wife and I moved to an apartment last year. The paint patern was much the same as yours. :hihi:

I didn't know the 'Who Can Tell' but from your pic and description, together the pic below, I think it would have been at the crossroads and on the left side corner of Ruthin Street going towards town, just across the old lower part of Botham Street which was below Petre Street. Am I right?

Hi Sheila, Peter anyone, Can you put names to these people

in Botham St.

Compare this picture to the first, you can see where Botham St North was near the trees,

and can see where chip shop were.

You can see where Enzers corner shop was. Hope you like Brian

Hi Brian,

I'm afraid I don't recognise the people on your first pic. I lived further down Grimesthorpe though.

I'm also trying to place the position of the first pic.

I presume the street in the foreground is Botham Street. What's the white building on the left?

There appears to be two other streets in the background, or the one to the right is a continuation of the one in the foreground. What are they named please?

Peter.

If I can help, the continuation is Botham Street North. The white building to the left was a shop on the corner of Cyclops Street (to the left) and Grimesthorpe Road (where the car is.)
