Yes i've been in Rising Pub years ago but now made into flats.

The Star shop on York St used to have it. Probably Sheffield Scene too on Surrey St.

Hi Brian, yes it was converted about 3 years ago, as far as I am aware, they are still empty.

That book Roveress is on about is in the central library i've seen it

on shelfs. But to buy it can be bought in surrey st gift shop.

It sells silver ware and lots of books, post cards and other nice things.

Here's a photo I took with the pump showing about three years ago looking from Upwell Lane towards Upwell Street. The spout is still there out of shot on the other side, the square hole is where the handle would have been years ago. It looked much the same when I saw it a few months ago.

lived and where they were at the time of the fire.

 

At Height of the blaze many as 15 fire engines from around Sheffield

spent 5/6 hours tackling the outbreak at Firth Brown' Carlisle St.

Story was there was contractors in to do work on the first day of

the shut down week, the Steelmen were on a 2 weeks holiday.

Can anyone remember where they were at the time of the fire.

PS, It was in the 2/3 Machine shop - July 1969

As a child I lived on Adsetts Street which is about 200 yards or so on the right behind the camera on the shot below taken 14 Nov 1965. I worked at Firth Browns as you know until 1966, but left the area when I married in 1965 and missed the fire as I lived in Bramley near Rotherham at the time.

I like that picture Peter and i really do remember them houses,

wished i had a £1 for every time i passed them.

On both our pics you can just make out where the shop window is, you

can see the Alex pub aswell. Thanks for your reply Peter.
