Grimesthorpe Part 3

Recommended Posts

Was that the Burgeons at the corner of Lyons St and Petre St.If so I did the the deliveries from '58 -'60,by wheelcart most days but a van on Fridays because of so many orders ,made more in tips that night than I got paid for the week.

Yes the same Burgon's, when I was there 61-62 the van was Thursdays and Fridays. Mr.Sellers was the manager.

Hi Wallace, I remember the cuts and bruises scrambling for those

sweet off the ground, can you remember the pennies he through out

too the crowd.

One thing i did like was the sack of coal race that ran as far to the

Who can tell pub and back. Good old Grimesthorpe people.

Happy times.

I think the driver was called Len,a Thames van. One night I was told to bring the order in,the woman was in the tin bath. Len wanted to deliver the next week.

I never knew your dad was in the race Sheila but good luck for a

truly winner when he was around, i offen wondered if the runners

stopped for a crafy drink befor they doubled back with the sack of coal.

HaHa. Good family yours. :hihi: Brian

Brian behave ! Sheffield Police boxes -at least in the in '50s and '60s -were green and cream and the one at the end of Carlisle Road and Adsetts Street the 'Customer's' door faced Grimesthorpe school. I wasn't a patron tho' !

Thanks brian1941 - No never saw one like that before, incidentally are there any of the old boxes still in use anywhere? I'll bet not, not in this digital and computer age we live in.
