stpetre   12 #676 Posted October 17, 2015 (edited) Thanks 'stpetre' and 'PeterR' for all the added information. fleetwood  That's o.k. Fleetwood, and as for my user-name apart from a 'typo', should be st petre, which shows that I was born less than a million miles away from Grimesthorpe. I would like in inquire as to the remaining 'watering holes' left in that area. If the 'Ball' Upwell Street is still there, where would the nearest ones be? Wincobank, Carbrook the Ellesmere/Burngreave area, or as I look on a map directly westward (no more Firth Park Hotel), would it be Manchester? yes THAT place that is somewhere between Stockport and Oldham. Â Hi Brian and everyone, Â I can't throw much light on which ''watering holes'' are still operating in the area or which brews the lost ones sold. Although I lived in Grimesthorpe from birth in 1943 to age 14, my family then moved to Shiregreen. I still look around the old places when I go down to Sheffield. Seems like a big part of my life. It's where ''it all started''. Â Here's a watering hole that still exists, snapped by me around 2013 :- Â Â A link to a pic in 1977:- Â http://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?action=zoomWindow&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;s33404&prevUrl= Â It looked in the same condition a few weeks ago as in my photo a couple of years ago. The spout is still there around the other side. Seems it needs a local community group to adopt it, after all it's been there since 1836. Can't see the Council maintaining it now. Maybe the Chapel will consider it?? Â Peter.
 Share this content via...

Also by clicking the arrow all the rest can be seen. I don't know why this happens sometimes and not others. However, there is nothing on there that I mind people seeing. Thanks for pointing this out. Peter. Edited October 19, 2015 by PeterR
 Share this content via...
