Grimesthorpe Part 3

Recommended Posts

Hi Brian and All,

Here's all the school photo names. At some point I put them on the Earl Marshall Secondary thread. I have had some contact with a few of them on 'Friends Reunited' in recent years.

Back row left to right :-

Ron Annible (Hanibal?), Neil Ellis, Brian Turner, Rodney Brown, Peter Rowley (me), Peter Sharpe, Michael Sutherland, Geoffrey Cook, Vincent Rhodes.

Middle row left to right :-

Carol Mackenzie, Wendy Booker, Olga Howarth, Jean Coles, Carol Johnson, Anne Briklebank, Chora Stevens, Maureen Roberts, Rita West.

Front row left to right :-

Sandra Johnson, Norma Bagshaw, Pat Evans, Linda Lee, Mr.Ruttle (Paddy), Fay Sellers, Anne Dial, Sandra Coddington, Sandra Moore.

I also made a note at the time of half a dozen who didn't make it on the photo.

I don't remember Mr Unwin, but I do remember Mr.Turner (Pop) as my geography teacher. He lived on Firth Park Crescent and kept his car in one of the lockups next to the pub. I moved from Grimesthorpe to Shiregreen a few months before I left school but didn't change schools. He picked me up a couple of times when I was going to get the tram to school, which I thought was very nice of him.

Yes thanks, it's hot up here at the edge of our village in North Yorkshire, just a mile from the border with County Durham.

Peter.

Hi Brian,

Well, I remember all the people when I see the photo but, maybe in anticipation of the present state of my memory, I wrote all the names on the back of the photo :hihi:

I remember Charlie Wise very well and also Amy B Wise, his wife, from my time in The Life Boys. Wonderful couple who we owe a lot to.

I transferred from The Life Boys to the Boys Brigade on 28th Sept 1956.

I know this as I still have my transfer certificate with the date on :hihi:

late 1950s with the Boys Brigade and i dont have a photo of us all,

only the church we went to on Sunday, shall have to look for them.

Did you manage to go on holiday with them. Happy Days :|

A photo from the 1930's of Charlie and Amy Wise, May Brewin, Ken Morris and ,I think,John PM's grandparents

Thats right Tonio. Grandparents William & Liliam Morris.

Don't they all look happy!!!

I visited Sheffield for 4 days last week & went to morning service at Reform Chapel on Sunday. Great to meet Irene Reynolds, Carole Webb & Bernard & Jean Oldman etc. Their numbers are small now but its worth while anyone popping in to see them if you have chance.

Remember Rene Marriott? Its her 90th birthday shortly.

Hi Brian,

I last saw Charlie Wise crossing Carlisle Street East near Firth Browns in a brown smock in 1959/60.

I believe Johnpm has some photos of Charlie Wise and The Boys Brigade at Jersey in the late sixties.

I went to the Staithes camp with The Lifeboys in 1954/5 but was in the BB only a few months before leaving Grimesthorpe to move to Shiregreen so didn't go to camp with them.

Have you looked on the thread (Boys brigade. Does it still exist?) ??

Peter.
