brian1941 Â Â 11 #194 Posted November 14, 2014 I lived on Margate Drive in the prefabs. I was in the same class as Mick Martin. I remember the name Brian Goldthorpe. I think he may have had two brothers but not sure. Was his name Goldthorpe or was it Gawthorpe? Did he live at the top of the hill on Grimesthorpe Rd, on the left hand side facing down the hill? -------------- Dommi, Yer spot on, he live in that first yard on left going down hill just a little higher up from Gledall shop only that was on right. I think his name was Gawthorpe. I lost contact with him when he joined i think it was the army, not seen him for years. Brian. Flo Fennel   10 #196 Posted November 15, 2014 Good news for Grimesthorpe Family Centre, we have won a make over, it's a scheme called 'Give & Gain' day, it's where big employers give their employees time off to give some hours back to community projects. There will be up to 200 employees taking part in making over the centre from painting, plastering to knocking bits out and changing. We are so excited, when the lady was saying what they could do it brought tears to our eyes. There will be a facebook page and twitter account set up for people to see the progress and I'll keep everyone informed. It is going to be amazing, can't wait for the first meeting to get started.  Well done and congratulations Janie-m, your perseverance has paid off, good luck with it all
 Share this content via...
brian1941   11 #197 Posted November 15, 2014 Hi pigeon, Just for clarification, yes the Rhodes family lived on Grimesthorpe Road opposite the club which is at the junction of Grimesthorpe Road and the end of where a short bit of road opposite the school branches off Earl Marshall Road to the left, towards Adsetts Street. I lived on Adsetts Street just around the corner from the Rhodes family, hence why our yards were next to each other.  Hope this makes sence  Peter. --------------------- Hi Peter R, Did you know Brian and Lynda Smith i'am not sure if they lived on Addsetts st or somewhere down side of Wellington pub. Or they could have lived downside of Hogson pub on Carlisle rd. Brian
 Share this content via...

Having said that, I'm much better with faces I lived the first 14 years of my life on Adsetts Street, leaving for Shiregreen in 1957. Maybe I would have missed them?  Peter. Hawksheadboy   10 #199 Posted November 18, 2014 Well done and congratulations Janie-m, your perseverance has paid off, good luck with it all  Great news. I spent many Fridays at the 21]st Boys Brigade meetings there. I have lots of memories, such as: the back room with its crockery lift to downstairs doing drill (mainly lots of left and right wheels at a cracking pace) a sketches evening where the vicar sang "there's a hole in my bucket" Phil (noo noo) Nortcliffe diving headfirst over the box (PE) onto a rough coir mat handball with benches for goals Brian (Bert) Locker's amazing smile the day I joined the BB I bet Walt and Flo can remember some fantastic times there too. Any offers? This building carries so much of the spirit of the area. Great to know it has a new lease of life.
 Share this content via...
