Terry Rhodes lived in the house next to the steelworks wall at the bottom of Grimesthorpe Road, as geotom says 'opposite the club' , and near the Old Bowling Green Hotel. I can`t remember Terry, I knew Mick Rhodes worked for Jimmy Childs after leaving school with Barry Lowkes who`s mother had the shop on the corner of Rothay and Wincobank Lane.

I remember the stone steps set into the stone wall on the right hand side of Grimesthorpe Rd looking towards town, they were just situated before the road that led upto the pre-fabs that were there in the early days.

steps, used them on mi way to school over Gledhalls field and playing

football on same field.

Re the stone steps.

 

David Prosser had a hen and pidgeon loft at the top of the steps, and I can remember going rat hunting with the dogs, never caught any though.

 

When we were kids we used to climb the wall at the side of the steps and it seemed about 20ft tall, I went back a few years ago and I couldnt believe it was only about 5ft.

Hi, I think the first photo was taken about 1956, at Grimesthorpe school, I am not too sure of the date as it is a photo of one of my sisters.

 

the second photo was taken at Grimesthorpe sunday school.

 

The third one is a photo of the famous or infamous, Blondie, of Cyclops st, and Sutherland road baths.

Hi, I think it was about 1955-56, I think it was when I was of school with measels, know the faces but just can't remember names, top row right, Stephen Hallam, next row, 3rd from right, Philip Nortcliffe, next row, far right, Billy Smith, bottom row, 2nd left, Jennifer Oliver, 3rd, Michael Clarkson, some more names may come to me lol

I think you are right about the year Terry, it was owler lane infants. Some of these kids were in your school year and some were in mine. Back row 2nd from right Heather Bailey, Back row 4th from left Elaine Spooner, 3rd row second right Stuart Burnham, 3rd row 2nd left Susan Barson, front row 1st left Susan Allott, front row 2nd left sandra somerset ?
