There was a film I watched a few times as a kid starring James Cagney cant remember the name. Cagney character died throwing himself on a grenade to save hid friends.

These are, essentially, all the WW1 absolute classics, though I find the inclusion of Gallipoli puzzling amongst this constellation. If anything, I'd have replaced it with e.g. The Blue Max.

If we are not limited not "cult status"-level WW1 movies, though, then there have been quite a number of WW1 movies released in recent times which could warrant a viewing, notably:

Passchendaele

The Lost Battalion

Flyboys

War Horse

The Lost Battalion is indeed a great film. I haven't seen War Horse yet, but will try and watch it over the coming weeks.
