Mountain bike service/repair

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Been given a (fairly) decent mountain bike but it needs a full service and possibly a little bit of work, puncture repair, perhaps a new tyre.

Can anyone recommend someone for this job, preferably around central/north Sheffield?

Don't want to take it to the like of Halfords if I can help it.

( I did do a search before posting but all the existing threads seem to be from 2011)

Many thanks

Ok, based on the fact that the person mentioned Halfords, it seems clear that they're not that up on bike maintenance, so asking someone to learn could be a bit dangerous if you do something wrong or miss something. There's also the initial cost of the tools and the space required.

If you want to learn, BIke Rehab and Edinburgh Cycle Co-op do courses.

Or Langsett Cycles, or Decathalon.

Thanks all.

I think I will check out russellsbicycleshed.co.uk and bikerehab.co.uk.

Would probably prefer to deal with a small/enthusiastic outfit such as these.

And as someone pointed out, DIY is a no-no, can barely use a spanner never mind service a bike!! :-)

I agree, looking at some of these prices quoted on this thread someone is earning easy money.

Langsett cycles have a good rep

Langsett Cycles are rubbish, it took them four days to replace a bladed spoke and tru my wheel after they said it would be done the next day :loopy:

Planet X are the best I've used: http://www.planetx.co.uk/bike-servicing
