Contemporary music being used to reinvigorate classic (old) films

I went to the Crucible a few weeks ago to see 'British Sea Power' performing live, their soundtrack to the 1934 film '

' ... it was (as expected) excellent.

I like the idea of old classic films being bought back to the fore by contemporary musicians ... rather like Arcade Fire using Eisenstein's 'Battleship Potemkin' (1925) for their superb track '

'.

Tonight, I've just watched BBC 4's A Century in Film ..'From Scotland With Love' and been introduced to a musician I've never heard of before ... 'King Creosote' (Kenny Anderson).

It's a very cleverly compiled set of film clips from the Scottish Film Archives, set to music by the above musician in a work commissioned for the Commonwealth Games ... a bit of it

. I think it's gorgeous!

Does anyone know of any more of these mixtures of the two?

In the meantime, I'm off to listen to more King Creosote ... :)

The music used in the Great Gatsby made me stop watching it.

I was totally immersed in 1920s New York and then boom, all of a sudden I hear the black eyed peas and all sorts of other terrible music from the last 10 years or so. It ruined all sense of immersion for me.
