Sheffield to Doncaster by train

I have to take a train up to Edinburgh in early September in a bid to make them vote No in the referendum.

I notce it is much cheaper if you go via Doncaster than from Sheffield. Not much more than half.

the very cheapest ticket is at 6.15am however I don't think I can get to Doncaster early enough, at least by train.

I know nothing at all, of Doncaster.

there are 2 Doncaster stations I take it I want Doncaster and not Doncaster interchange.

can I get a bus like VERY early, at like 4am.

how much is a taxi.

can I buy a ticket on the train Sheffield/Doncaster going there and Doncaster/Sheffield coming back so I can just change platforms without bothering to go to any ticket booth.

Train at 05-29 gets into Doncaster 06-06 cross the platform East Coast train will be there ready to depart at 06-15.Tickets can be bought on the train.I travel this route regular and have to get a taxi to Sheffield station as the first bus from our end of town does not get me there with time to spare.

I assumed 9 minutes would be cutting it too fine. But you are saying you are sure that is enough time? That early train is never cancelled, or late?

The 05:29 is the Hull train (or actually, Beverley)

Its an "official" connection at Doncaster, and can get quite busy.

When I knew the service well it always ran, and on time....There isnt a lot about at that time of a morning to create hold-ups.

Incorrect-the difference is £0.20p return on these trains.

The fare is £31.20 from Sheffield to Edinburgh return if you book now on the East Coast train site to get the discount/reservations and points.

Book now as this fare will be sold out soon.

Booking the through ticket also means that if the Sheffield bit is late or cancelled you can catch the next train from/to Doncaster.

thank you but the return with East Coast is coming up at just less than £90 on the dates I want to travel.

i have now realised that if I go Sheffield - Edinburgh it's £17 one way, however that is a 5.30am departure. However, coming back, I find I cannot get anything like as cheap a fare as that from Edinburgh - Sheffield, therefore I have opted for Edinburgh -Doncaster at £23. Total with a Doncaster-Sheffield train on the return leg and two taxis to and from Midland Station, about £57.

As there are no £17.00 fares on the ECML site you must be using another site. Which site are you using? ECML offer a discount on their website on their services so they are always the cheapest on their own trains.

Cross Country are always more expensive and take longer despite often being through trains.

There are no cheaper sites for this route.

eg the £15.60 will be £17.50 on Cross Country and £18.25 on Trainline

Two singles are often cheaper than a return.
