Mainly because she's been living off the profits of a much more successful band. Two if you count Billy Corgan writing half of her most successful album.

Why is it their fault that people like (and buy) simple catchy songs with no discernible value? The only thing they're guilty of in that respect is making more of what people want.

The scene has changed dramatically from recorded to live. Awesome because that means they still make records and on top of that are forced to develop a good live set (I have seen soooo many terrible live acts).

 

You can actually tell in the way music has developed over the last three decades and it can only get better.
