Crime does pay!!

If crime dose not pay why are all the comuntiy service criminals been set on the books after doing their hours at our dump it sites?

I have worked at one of the 5 dump it sites for 4 years and been trying to get my lad a job since I started. We are now been forced to work with community service people who have been done for eg, violence , drugs , theft. Who are been rewarded with a job after.

Surely they other people out there who deserve a job more then them?

Is that the route to go down these days if you want a job go get caught beating someone up?

I think its unfair to the people who are out of work and deserve a job

I for one would rather them work to earn a living rather than going back to thieving and dealing.

Yes they have made poor life choices, but if they are willing and able to put that behind them and start contributing to society then I applaud them for that.

That's hardly the point is it? Should they be given preference was the question.

No it wasn't. The OP stated that non offenders should be given priority.

Neither group should be given priority.

Oh really! So criminals should be on a level playing field with the honest man. Nonsense!

Isn't it?

The OP was implying past offenders shouldn't be given employment due to their history.

What is the alternative to people with a criminal record? Spend the remainder of their lives sponging off the state mixed with a bit of petty crime?

Once they've done their community service they should be on their own. Sounds like they've been given employment BECAUSE of their history IF we're to believe the OP.

They've served their sentence and are presumably rehabilitated according to the rehabilitation of offenders act 1974.

To treat them any differently would be a criminal act in itself.

They are given a job as a second chance. If they really have nothing to do in the day, no money, no sense of fulfillment, then here's their chance. Some will make it and move away from crime, some will fail and be back into crime. For those that succeed, then the initiative is a success.

To turn the question round to the OP, why should anyone in the know be given the job in preference to others? It's the public-school principle of connections means opportunities. Nepotism should be a thing of the past, everyone should equally stand on their own feet in finding work.

I have mixed feelings, it's unfair to those that are good but don't get the opportunities, at the same time, if it reduces future crime and turns lives round, then its good.

As the OP states, these wronguns are getting a free pass from community service straight into employment. Where is the easy entry route for the honest man. Totally wrong.
