Great CITY of SHEFFIELD .

Hi Sheffielders are you like me and getting fed up of hearing about Leeds been the great city of the North . Look North should be told that there is a far greater city up north . The place of my birth CITY of SHEFFIELD . After all how many world changing Inventions IE Steel Silver-plate Stainless steel and not to mention forging the crank shafts for the World WII Spitfire .So come on Look North and stop telling me Leeds is the great city of the north when we in Sheffield know different.

Sorry MM but sheffield is a shadow of its former self and will never recover its former glory,all that went with the industries.As you have posted the past of the city is great but thats gone.I am sheffield born and bred and love to get home but the future doesn't look great for the city.

Leeds also lost much of its manufacturing industry with the demise of the cotton mills, but it has largely recovered and gone on to other things. With the right management I see no reason why Sheffield shouldn't do the same.

Our Daughter lives in Leeds, so visit on a regular basis, I really don't like it, we have to drive through Harehills a grotty area where every home seems to have wrought iron shutters on the doors. She lives in Roundhay a good area with a lovley large park. But living on the doorstep of Harehills would put me off! give me Sheffield any day and we live ont Cross!!

If I heard correctly on the news this evening, there's a proposal for HS3 connecting Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, and Hull.

Says it all really.....Sheffield is the forgotten city.

We're on the main route of HS2 that goes to Leeds.

 

We'll all be dead by the time HS3 is completed and im in my 30's

I think Anna hit the nail on the head with "management".

 

I also think the geography and lack of decent transport links to Manchester are a hindrance. Other than the M62 way north of the region you have just a a few single carriageway country lanes.
