Snake spotted North of Sheffield

I have been spotting more and more snakes recently in the South Yorkshire area. Spotted a few in Sheffield the other week but had no camera to film with.

 

Luckily a friend had his DSLR and managed to shoot a brief video of the snake. It was swimming and trying to climb up a weir.

 

 

I also want to ask have any of you had experiences with snakes in Sheffield and/or the wider area of South Yorkshire?

It is illegal to keep a grass snake under the Wildlife and Countryside act 1981

Looks like it might be quite a good year for grass snakes perhaps - there was a picture of one in Ecclesall Woods on the Pictures of Sheffield Facebook group a few days ago.
