Explosion on Gleadless Townend/Hollinsend?

Did anyone else hear/see that about half an hour ago? I live on Kirkby Drive and it looked like it was coming from Gleadless Common way. Big black mushroom cloud and a huge bang! Now all the power's off!

 

Anyone know what's happened?

From your description I would guess a transformer has blown out for some reason. Bit early for cable-theft, but you never know!

Yeah course this is for real. Think it might be a sub station that's exploded. That's going to take some repairing!

a friend saw the substation explode "like a lighting fire ball". Apparently there is no power, phone or internet for those effected in the area

Sub station on Gleadless road apharently, I never heard or saw a thing. Did see a load of cops racing about like loon's about half three though. Don't know what that was all about?

Yeah I've since seen in the papers about a sub station explosion on Gleadless Road. But it wasn't!! It was down an alleyway off Hollinsend Road. So either there was another explosion at exactly the time or the papers have got it wrong!
