Where to buy play sand?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Where in Sheffield sells play sand at reasonable prices? I reckon I need somewhere around 500-600KG, which seems to put me a fair bit below buying a bulk bag (850-1000KG), but individual bags seem really expensive when you start buying in volume.

Any aggregate companies that'll do just a half tonne?

Homebase, B&Q

Thanks - but From the reviews on b&q, that sand is pretty rubbish.

I've looked on the main sites, but all bagged is very expensive (>£1/5kg) so 500kg is £100, whereas a loose tonne is about the same-ish.

Who'd have thought playsand would be so expensive!

Its expensive because it washed to clean out the solids and the salts. Its then dried so you aren't paying for water as you are in damp builders sand. The heat /drying will also have killed off any bugs. Play sand didn't seem expensive when I bought it. I have only put it in kids sand pits though.

Early Learning Centre used to sell it.
