Wedding Venue Discussion 2015/2016

Recommended Posts

For a quirky venue where you can hire a room how about The Chimney House.

For other more traditional venues there is Cutlers Hall, Whitley Hall, Wortley Hall, The Holiday Inn Royal Victoria plus others that other people have suggested. If you are just looking for a room to hire why not try the local pubs and clubs?

thank you!

I understand Whirlow Brook Hall is back up and running as a wedding venue (even though they're not really advertising the fact much), a friend went to go and see it, apparently it's quite pricy nowadays, so will take it off the list.

thank you all!

Hi,

I went to have a look around. To get married and have the wedding breakfast for 50 it was 6k if you wanted just the venue it was 7k (not sure why)

They also said you could use the scenery for photography but no outside activities or entertainment allowed

Ooh thank you! Good to know for sure, and that does put it out of our budget.

Even if it didn't, it's a bit rubbish that they don't allow or encourage outdoor activities!?

Played a party there in the big room. It was decorated very nicely but still retained quite an industrial feel which was nice.

My daughter had her wedding in Little Mesters within Kelham Island but I think you are perhaps refering to inside the actual Museum?

We got married at kelham island in feb 2013. Our ceremony was at the town hall. My husband met our 40 guests at Piccolinos for drinks first and I got a black cab into town! Our service was at 3.30 then we went to peace gardens and winter gardens for photos then everyone headed to the museum. From 5-6 we just had drinks and they left the museum open for people to look around. We used hazels catering who were very good. At 6 we had the meal - sausages n mash, a speech that lasted about 3 minutes and then coffee/tea and we cut the cake as dessert. On the table we had a daft quiz about ' us' and we bought everyone an irish lottery ticket and did the draw. About 8 the band came and did 2 45 minute slots. Unfortunately we booked a casino but they didn't show! Most people left about 1ish then we went to Platillos for cocktails! Our wedding was exactly as we wanted it. I can recommend the museum and hazels catering. Sorry, can't comment on children as we only had our nephews n nieces but the museum did open the soft play area for them for an hour or so before dinner. Good luck, I'm sure it'll be great. We had the downstairs room, cake was where the gift shop is and tables between the guns.

We are using Harrisons Bar as its extremely cheap, in the city center on a tram route with easy access to the two premier inns in the city center. You can use your own dj and decorate how you want it.

At £150 for the whole bar, you really cant go wrong! :)

Hi I'm am having my reception there did you find it easy to decorate? I love the venue as it very unique I am just a little undecided how I'm going to make it look more of a wedding reception rather than a normal party. Any advice would me great

Thanks :-)

I don't think there are any hard and fast rules, its personal taste. Pick a style that compliments the style of your wedding ie formal or informal, modern, vintage and match or contrast decorations with your wedding colours if they suit the venue.
