Replacement window & door recommendations MEGATHREAD. NO JOBS, ADS OR QUOTES

Recommended Posts

I have arranged for a few double glazing companies to come round over the next week or so to give me quotes for replacement windows.

Does any one have any recommendations or bad experiences with any double glazing companies ?

I already have ' nasty' upvc windows and will be replacing them with 'nasty 'upvc windows.

I don't need to worry about the value of the house as I bought the house to live in and in a few years it is going to my son and his family and they will be living in it as they love the house.

Me too, 'nasty' is a strong word. I like my upvc windows which I had done in the same style as the originals. Yes an odd hinge or catch has needed replacing in 20 years, but other than that they're still good.

Original timber windows from the 1900s were good, but IMHO that was because they had decent seasoned timber. I'd question whether modern timber windows are as good.

Quick question. I have hardwood windows in my property which are a dark mahogany colour. I would like to make them a lighter colour, does anyone know if this is possible and how to do it?

Cheers

I have been getting quotes recently for a new bay window, dining room window and front door. Ive had quotes from Sheffield window center, Yorkshire Windows, Barrier GLazing, Classic Windows Dronfield, and a joiner when i was considering refurbing the existing wooden windows.

As of today i have been waiting for the barrier glazing quote for 20 days, chased them up once but still nothing. On the other hand, Sheffield window center and yorkshire windows and classic windows' quotes came through in a professional manner within a day or two. The joiner was too vague and didnt take the time to go through my questions so i ruled him out pretty much immediately.

Of the quotes i have, I think i am going to go with Yorkshire windows. the price was slightly better on the exact same door for example, and i liked their friendly professional, no hassling you afterwards approach. Plus their lead time to start was a third of that of sheffield window center.

interested to hear if you have any recommendations thus far, before i make a final decision!

Please give Frame-ups windows a try too. We are a family run business which specialises in wooden/sash windows with a great reputation! We have been established for over 25 years and if you type us in the search engine you will find a lot of very happy customers from the forum alone. The number is in my signature below or you can ring my husband on his mobile on 07939136401, his name is Mark.

Thank you

Rachael

Hi can anyone please recommend a good sash window company..? i'm presently in the process of doing up the kitchen and the kitchen window needs replacing it's presently a upvc window and I was going to replace it with a similar, but decided i would prefer to put in an original sash as it's a victorian terrence, obviously have a budget so can't go mad though i appreciate it'll be more expensive than upvc.

Thanks
