Free loaders that have made a positive contribution to the economy???

Tell you who the real free loaders are? Facebook, Google, Amazon, Starbucks! They're the real foreigners coming to our country and stealing from us.

On another note. Can't wait to see UKIP's leader torn to spreads by an ex drug addict comedian on tomorrow's question time! :hihi:

Have you noticed how the media including newspapers seem to follow Farage around, waiting to read something into what he hasn't said?

If they did the same to Cameron and Miliband we'd have a full day's reading!!!

:):)

You mean the press doing their job and scrutinising a politician?

If you don't like that, you are living in the wrong country.

So if UKIP are not in the running who are the forum knockers going to vote for Red Ed Jong Un who won't be having a EU refrendum, can't be having the plebs making up their own minds and we'll open the floodgates again.

Or Cameliar Jong Un the blackmailer you can only have a EU referendum if you vote for me, the unemployment figures are coming down because we know how to fudge figures, and we'll tell them we've shut the floodgates I'm sure no one will notice.

Anyone with a clue.

Immigration is not, by a long way, the biggest issue facing the UK today.

The economy, energy and transport are all bigger issues which need solving rather than the number of people who can work in the UK.

Does UKIP have answers to any of those issues? No. Their "policies" for people document just steps around those issues and says they'll do something, not what, or the consequences (with the exception of stopping HS2, which is idiocy in itself) of their plans.

All the proper parties (and I'm including the likes of the Greens and SNP) have plans and policies for those areas.

UKIP is just a really bad joke.

With a £1.5 trillion debt and rising the present and past parties are doing a great job on that aren't they, energy is blowing in the wind, and transport is doing extremely well squandering on HS2 when you are in debt up to the eyeballs innit.

That's the sum total of the country's debt to term (including e.g. all pensions to everyone until they die decades from today), I wish people would stop parroting this meaningless figure about, as if the UK had to repay it at year end or something

All things considered, including the global context, 'what' they inherited, and all the intervening statistico-legal fudges and compromises, the Coalition hasn't done bad at all so far, under the cold hard light of objectivity.

Nuclear is properly underway, not in as good a deal for the country and consumers as it could have been, but better than the sure-fire alternative of cranks and candles the way things were going.

HS2 will undoubtedly go massively overbudget, but it is needed, both infrastructurally and economically as a New Deal-esque initiative.

And there's more.

Doesn't mean they should automatically get a return ticket in 2015, but fair's fair on the state of the P&L account after 4 years: as a country, the UK is still in the red, but far less than 4 years ago, far less than most other countries at intervening short- to medium- terms, and it's heading back to the black faster than most, and might yet get there sooner than predicted or, at any rate, in better shape...if the next lot in 2015 at least caretake what's been set in motion and don't p*** it all up the wall again.

Naturally, I don't expect anyone with one or ten axes to grind against the Tories and/or LibDems to accept that summary or position. Certainly not the 'kippers, for the simple reason that they won't understand any of it anyway :hihi:

The what they inherited has been done to death by each incoming government blaming the last, then getting further in the mire while filling their pockets, wonder which one will be pulling up the floorboards to sell off next.

They're doing a better job than UKIP say they would do.

Actually, it is a good idea. Large scale infrastructure projects are good things when you're just coming out of recession - they promote investment, training and employment - and they bring about long term benefits to the nation.

Where's your crystal ball kept.

The only thing HS2 will promote is more fiddle and debt.

Can I ask you 'what' global crisis aftermath, parlous national finances and asset-stripping commitments did Blair inherit in 1997, 2001 and 2005?

It needs people to build it. They need training and paying.

It needs materials to build it with. They need supplying.

The supplied materials need to be made into their required form. That needs people. Those people need training and paying.

Yes, it will cost £bn, but a very large amount of that will end up in the hands of British workers.

UKIP are only against the plan because of a few rich land owners in the home counties who're bothered that their multi-million-pound mansions might be worth a few quid less if the riff raff can be seen going past from the top floor.
