The Liberal Democrats - all discussion here please

Recommended Posts

Lib Dems have been sold down the river by the Conservatives who have used them as whipping boys.

Everything that's gone right with this coalition government the Conservatives have taken credit for; everything that's gone wrong the Conservatives have put the blame on the Lib Dems.

It's a shame 'cause the Lib Dems have worked hard at being a moderating influence and still have some measure of integrity, whereas Cameron and his Conservative cronies are a bunch of untrustworthy, arrogant slimeballs.

It's got to be better than Miliband who made himself as popular as syphlis and an unelectable burk all on his ownsome.

Led by Cleggers the Lib-Dems are finished. Maybe Cable might be able to pull his party back from the brink if Clegg would do us all a favour and cross the floor (or rather sidle up the benches) to join the Tories he so closely resembles.

Depends if the Lib Dems can hang on to the Hallam seat or not...

I have never really liked Clegg or his party but I do like the fact that he is the only mainstream politician prepared to take on St Nige and the monkey-hangers and I could see him just about hanging onto Hallam.

People used to hate the Tories, after Thatcher got kicked out.

which explains why John Major's Tories received more votes in 1992, than she ever did.

What is frustrating and sad about this is that, as usual, hard working, well meaning local councillors are apparently getting it in the face due to people voting on national issues in local elections.

In some area the local councilors that have had it in the face weren't hard working or well meaning and only get elected each year because of the party they happen to represent, so its good that some of them have lost their unearned positions.

The Lib-dems are doomed while Clegg is in charge. He didn't play politics very well. He staked his reputation on a policy and publicly made a promise. He then U turned. This made him seem like a man who would sell his morals for a sniff of power and who's party pledges were meaningless.

I know the other parties are no better but they are never stupid enough to make an absolute promise unless its an uncontentious and cost free one.

I think that shows Cleggs political inexperience.

They are getting it in the face because they chose to ignore peoples concerns and insult them instead.

The solutions for addressing those ignored concerns may rest at national level but living with the consequence is very much a local experience. As such the kick-in for failure to listen is inevitably going to be delivered at both levels. They are getting what they deserve.

These would be the same grass roots people who go to LibDem conference vowing to challenge the leadership, then roll over on their backs and vote through whatever Nick Clegg wants? They are part of the national problem and that gets reflected at the ballot box.

Didnt stop Clegg jumping into bed with hom though did it ........ Judgement day is coming and Clegg will pay the price, the Libs will become none runners again and the chance for a credible third part will have gone …. All because Clegg took his 5 minutes of fame without considering the bigger picture.
