First of all, can I say I like Frank Field and think he is an asset to the Labour Party. He is not leaving the Labour Party. He is still an MP for the Labour Party, and still intends to stand again at the next election for the Labour Party. However He no longer wants to be on the National Executive of the Labour Party,

He nominated Jeremy Corbyn to stand for the leadership, still backs him, and wants to see him lead the Labour Party to victory in the next election.

The problem is the anti-semitism row and what he describes as thuggish behaviour, (he sited a female Labour Councillor but I don't know who he was referring to.)

Re anti-semitism, 'Labour has allowed itself to be hijacked into being branded as anti-semitic, and has not dealt with it well.' This revolves around the International document laying down the rules of what is considered anti-semitic behaviour. This includes a clause saying that any criticism of Israel will be regarded as anti-semitic. Jeremy Corbyn has agreed sign up to the all of the document, except for this clause. As usual JC is sticking to his principles in that some of Israel, (the state's) behaviour is unacceptable in its battle with Palestine. This is undoubtedly true, and Frank Field back's Corbyn's stance.

However this is now seen as anti-semitic and been blown up in the media. According to Frank Field this should have not been allowed to happen, (but he doesn't say how it could have been avoided. I don't think he knows,) and this is why he's resigned 'as a wake up call to the party.'

His resignation seems a bit at odds with this generally supportive vibe.

"The leadership is doing nothing substantive to address this erosion of our core values. It saddens me that we are increasingly seen as a racist party."

Hardly a ringing endorsement from a Labour MP of almost 40 years!

As far as I know Frank fields is sitting as an independent next time around, lets see how popular he is up against a true socialist labour candidate, his constituents were not happy that he voted siding with the Tories. He was facing deselection by his constituents, so he jumped before he was pushed, good luck on your own Frank, you'll need it

He was facing deselection by his local party - they are two very different things. We will find out who is right at the next general election.

My money is on the MP who has been there for 40 years. Let's put it this way, I hope that's the case.

Thats the point though, no MP should have a job for life, I would like to see mandatory re selection, then the constituents are not stuck with the same MP who is not performing, if he is then he has nothing fear

Frank Fields has been an MP for 40 years. In response you said that, and I quote, 'no MP should have a job for life'.

Corbyn has been an MP for 35 years.

Presumably you think that's OK, so why is it a problem that Frank Fields has been an MP for about as long?
